Ference makes Bruins debut against Oilers

Feb 13, 2007 - 3:59 PM Edmonton (28-24-4) at Boston (25-25-4)

BOSTON (Ticker) -- The Boston Bruins play their first game since making a four-player trade on Saturday night.

Three days after acquiting defenseman Andrew Ference and right wing Chuck Kobasew from Calgary for defenseman Brad Stuart and center Wayne Primeau, the Bruins will host the Edmonton Oilers.

Ference is expected to suit up on Tuesday. Kobasew is sidelined with an elbow injury and will be out another two or three weeks. Ference has two goals and 10 assists this season while Kobasew has four goals and 13 assists in 40 games.

Boston has 54 points and is in 12th place in the Eastern Conference, eight points out of the final playoff spot. The Bruins defeated the New York Islanders, 4-3, in a shootout on Saturday before making the trade.

The defending Western Conference champion Oilers are in ninth place in the West. Edmonton is six points out of the final playoff spot and starts a season-high seven game road trip.

Edmonton has won three of four after a 5-1 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers on Sunday. Dwayne Roloson made 29 saves and has stopped 61-of-63 shots in his last two starts.

Edmonton's Ryan Smyth has seven goals and 14 points in his last 10 games.

Before the game, the Bruins will honor Johnny Bucyk for his 50 years of service to the club. Bucyk played 21 seasons and captained the 1972 Stanley Cup team. "The Chief" had 545 goals and 749 assists in 1,436 games with Boston.

Boston retired Bucyk's No. 9 in 1980. Bucyk was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame the following year.
