Flames, Avalanche meet in rematch

CALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) -- Whenever the Colorado Avalanche and the Calgary Flames play, there are usually a lot of goals scored.

The two clubs meet on Saturday in a rematch of a wild contest between Northwest Division rivals.

Calgary owns a 2-1 lead in the season series in which 29 goals have been scored. The Flames defeated the Avalanche, 5-2, on November 28, and 7-3 on January 11.

Joe Sakic scored his 600th career goal as the Avalanche outlasted the Flames, 7-5, on Thursday. The Colorado captain became the 17th player in NHL history to reach the milestone when, ironically, he scored into an empty net. Sakic has two goals and six assists in three games against the Flames this season.

Milan Hejduk registered his third career hat trick while Andrew Brunette had a goal and two assists. Alex Tanguay had three assists for Colorado.

Jarome Iginla and Matthew Lombardi each scored twice for Calgary. Craig Conroy had a goal and two assists.

Flames netminder Miikka Kiprusoff, who entered 2-0-0 with a 2.50 goals-against average against the Flames, surrendered six goals on 35 shots.
