Wild face Blues, look to continue climb
Feb 18, 2007 - 2:55 PM Minnesota (32-22-5) at St Louis (24-26-9) 6:00 pm ESTST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- Pavol Demitra and Marian Gaborik have the Minnesota Wild riding high.
Looking to take over the Northwest Division lead, the Wild on Sunday meet the St. Louis Blues.
Winners of six of its last eight games, Minnesota (59-32-5) moved one point behind co-leaders Vancouver and Calgary. The Wild have won eight of their last 10 road games after dropping 16 of their first 20 away from home.
Minnesota continued its success on the road with a 4-1 triumph over Nashville.
Demitra and Gaborik each had a goal and an assist and Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored on a penalty shot for the Wild, who started a run of four unanswered goals just 80 seconds into the middle session with a power-play tally.
Gaborik put Minnesota ahead for good with eight minutes to go in the third period, and Bouchard created some breathing room with his penalty-shot goal late in the final session.
A former member of the Blues from 1996-2004, Demitra has four goals and four assists in his last three games against his former squad. He is fifth on St. Louis's all-time points list at 493.
The Blues also picked up a win against the Predators on Friday as Bill Guerin scored the game's lone goal and Manny Legace made 19 saves for St. Louis in a 1-0 triumph.
