Bulis nets game-winner as Canucks edge Flames

Sep 30, 2006 - 4:50 AM VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- The Vancouver Canucks are hoping Jan Bulis has plenty more big goals in him.

Bulis scored at 4:50 of the third period to snap a tie and lift the Canucks to a 3-2 preseason victory over the Calgary Flames.

Coming off a season in which he scored a career-high 20 goals with Montreal, Bulis was signed to a one-year contract by Vancouver, which is hoping he can help supply some of the offense lost when Anson Carter departed as a free agent.

After recording two points in his first three preseason games, Bulis came up big Friday, beating reigning Vezina Trophy winner Miikka Kiprusoff less than five minutes into the third to give the Canucks a 3-2 edge.

Trailing, 1-0, Vancouver moved ahead when Ryan Kesler and Josh Green tallied 51 seconds apart midway through the first period. But defenseman Andrei Zyuzin scored at 6:13 of the middle session to forge a 2-2 tie.

Blue-liner Luc Bourdon, the 10th overall pick in 2005, picked up an assist and Roberto Luongo made 21 saves for the Canucks, who went 0-for-9 on the power play.

Captain Jarome Iginla scored on the man advantage and defenseman Roman Hamrlik notched two assists for Calgary, which received a 36-save performance from Kiprusoff.
