Ovechkin, Capitals look to snap out of rut vs. streaking Devils

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- With Alex Ovechkin struggling, the Washington Capitals are in a rut.

Ovechkin and the Capitals look to turn things around Saturday when they visit the New Jersey Devils.

The reigning Calder Trophy winner, Ovechkin ranks among the league leaders in goals (34) and points (72). However, he has just one tally and one assist in his last nine games and has gone pointless in his last four contests.

Ovechkin's lack of production has directly affected the Capitals, who have lost their last five games and are 4-11-3 in their last 18 contests.

On Wednesday, Washington suffered a 3-2 shootout loss to the San Jose Sharks.

The Devils, on the other hand, are flying high after Thursday's 3-2 shootout win over the rival New York Rangers.

Jamie Langenbrunner's fluke goal in the fourth round of the shootout completed a comeback for the Devils, who rallied from an early two-goal deficit.

Langenbrunner recorded two assists in regulation and Martin Brodeur made 28 saves for New Jersey, which is in second place in the Eastern Conference just five points behind Buffalo for the top spot.

The Devils have won eight of their last 10 contests and have won both meetings with the Capitals this season.
