Oilers close out seven-game road trip against Wild

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (Ticker) -- The Edmonton Oilers' season-high seven-game road trip did not start well, but it could end on a high note.

The Oilers shoot for their third straight win Saturday when they close out their road trip Sunday against the Minnesota Wild.

Edmonton is in ninth place in the Western Conference, five points out of the final playoff spot. The club started the trip with four losses but has won its last two contests, including a 4-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Friday.

Ryan Smyth scored his 31st goal and notched the only tally in the shootout. Netminder Dwayne Roloson made 27 saves for his second straight win.

The Wild, seventh in the West and seven points ahead of the Oilers, have won two straight, including a 4-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday.

Goaltender Niklas Backstrom started his 10th straight game in place of Manny Fernandez, who is out with a knee sprain. Backstrom made 28 saves, improving to 7-2-1 since taking the starting job.
