Coyotes seek second straight win over Flames

CALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) -- With their own playoff hopes virtually gone, the Phoenix Coyotes hope to deal a blow to the Calgary Flames when the teams meet Monday.

Phoenix, which enters tied for 12th in the Western Conference, halted a six-game losing streak with a 3-2 overtime victory over Calgary on Thursday. Captain Shane Doan netted the winning goal 54 seconds into the extra session after former Flame Steven Reinprecht had tied the contest late in the third period.

Calgary, which is eighth in the West with 73 points, rebounded from the loss by posting a 7-4 triumph over San Jose on Saturday. Captain Jarome Iginla and Daymond Langkow each scored twice for the Flames.

But it was just the third win in the last 10 games for the Flames, who have outscored the Coyotes, 14-7, in the first three meetings this season.

Iginla leads Calgary with three goals in the season series, while Tony Amonte and Alex Tanguay have two apiece.

The Coyotes, who could be active before Tuesday's trade deadline, will be riding the hot hand of another former Flame in Oleg Saprykin, who has scored in four of his last five games.
