Hurricanes host Senators, look to continue playoff push

Feb 27, 2007 - 3:52 PM Ottawa (36-22-4) at Carolina (32-25-7) 7:00 pm EST

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) -- The Carolina Hurricanes hope to be rounding into championship form once again.

The defending Stanley Cup champion Hurricanes look to continue to climb up the standings when they take on the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.

The Hurricanes posted their fourth win in six games, a 4-1 victory over Atlanta on Saturday. Carolina currently is in eighth place in the Eastern Conference, one point ahead of the New York Islanders and just one behind Montreal for the seventh slot.

Registering his fifth multi-goal game of the season, Justin Williams helped the Hurricanes also move within two points of the first-place Tampa Bay Lightning (73) and one of Atlanta in the Southeast.

Carolina hopes to get a jolt from acquiring veteran right wing Anson Carter, who arrived from Columbus for a fifth-round pick in 2008. The deal came four days before Tuesday's NHL trade deadline.

Carter, who is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent after this season, has collected 201 goals and 420 points in 664 games. He recorded a career-high 33 tallies with Vancouver in 2005-06.

The Senators have won six of their last seven games, including a 6-5 victory over Eastern Conference-leading Buffalo on Saturday. Jason Spezza scored his second goal of the game with 4:07 remaining in the third period.
