Slumping Rangers hope for turnaround against Canadiens
Feb 27, 2007 - 4:07 PM Montreal (32-26-6) at NY Rangers (29-27-6) 7:00 pm ESTNEW YORK (Ticker) -- If the New York Rangers want to make the playoffs, they have to start winning.
The slumping Rangers try to regroup against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday.
New York, mired in a 4-6-2 stretch, is in 12th place in the Eastern Conference. It has 64 points, six out of the last playoff spot.
The Rangers have just one out of a possible four points on a six-game homestand after a 3-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday.
Right wing Jaromir Jagr scored, giving him three goals and eight assists in his last nine games. Jagr has 22 goals in 62 contests, after scoring 54 in 82 games last season.
The Canadiens are seventh in the East, eight points up on the Rangers. They improved to 4-1-0 in their last five after a 5-4 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday.
Captain Saku Koivu had a goal and an assist, extending his points streak to five games. The center has two goals and 11 assists during that span.
Netminder David Aebischer made 32 saves to snap a three-game winless streak. Despite the victory, Aebischer has struggled in February, going 1-4-1 with an alarming 23 goals allowed.
