Sabres visit Maple Leafs in Northeast Division battle

Feb 27, 2007 - 4:31 PM Buffalo (41-16-5) at Toronto (30-24-9) 7:30 pm EST

TORONTO (Ticker) -- The Buffalo Sabres probably will not have to worry about a letdown.

The Sabres take on their Northeast Division rival Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday after an emotional and brawl-filled series with the Ottawa Senators.

Buffalo has 87 points and is second overall in the NHL. It comes off an eventful home-and-home series with the Senators.

Rookie Drew Stafford scored the decisive shootout goal in a wild 6-5 victory over the Senators last Thursday. Four players were ejected and Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff was fined.

The Sabres lost the rematch on Saturday, 6-5, despite a goal and an assist from Thomas Vanek. The left wing has a goal and three assists in four games against Toronto.

Buffalo center Daniel Briere had two assists on Saturday, extending his points streak to six games. He has four goals and six assists in that span.

The Maple Leafs are 1-2-1 in their last four after a 5-4 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Monday. Toronto captain Mats Sundin had two assists, giving him eight goals and eight assists in his last 14 contests.

Andrew Raycroft was pulled after allowing five goals on 16 shots. He is 8-9-3 in 20 division games.
