Perrault's power-play tally in OT lifts Coyotes past Ducks

Oct 1, 2006 - 5:11 AM GLENDALE, Arizona (Ticker) -- The power play of the Phoenix Coyotes was anything but powerful in the preseason. But it was good enough to lead the team to victory in the exhibition finale.

Joel Perrault scored a power-play goal with 25 seconds to go in overtime, giving the Coyotes a 2-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.

While Anaheim defenseman Sean O'Donnell serving a hooking penalty, Perrault one-timed a pass from blue-liner Ed Jovanovski past goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere from the left faceoff circle. It was a rare power-play tally for the Coyotes, who went 4-for-64 with the man advantage during the preseason.

Mike Comrie also received an assist on the play. It was the only point by a member of Phoenix's projected first line of Comrie, Jeremy Roenick and captain Shane Doan in the seven exhibition contests.

Dave Scatchard gave the Coyotes the lead midway through the first period, but Samuel Pahlsson forged a tie 4 1/2 minutes into the middle session.

Perrault also had an assist and Curtis Joseph stopped 27 shots for Phoenix, which opens the regular season at home Thursday against the New York Islanders.

Giguere made 36 saves for the Ducks, who host the Los Angeles Kings in their season opener Friday.
