Sabres look to keep rolling against Maple Leafs

Mar 3, 2007 - 4:47 PM Buffalo (43-16-5) at Toronto (31-25-9) 7:00 pm EST

TORONTO (Ticker) - The Buffalo Sabres have looked unstoppable lately, and they aim to keep their scary offensive production going when they meet the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.

Buffalo has 91 points and is the top club in the National Hockey League. The Sabres have scored seven or more goals seven times this season.

Amazingly, they have scored 31 of their league-leading 248 goals in the last five games without injured forwards Chris Drury, Maxim Afinogenov, Ales Kotalik and defenseman Jaroslav Spacek.

The Sabres lead the season series against the Leafs, 3-2-0 after a 6-1 rout on Tuesday. Jochen Hecht led Buffalo with two goals and an assist while rookie Clarke MacArthur had a goal and two assists.

Derek Roy collected four points and rookie Michael Ryan scored his first two career goals as the Sabres skated to an 8-5 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Friday. Thomas Vanek scored twice and Hecht had three assists for Buffalo, which is 8-1-1 in its last 10 contests.

Toronto also has injuries, and is without forwards Darcy Tucker, Michael Peca and Kyle Wellwood and defenseman Pavel Kubina. The Maple Leafs also lost defenseman Tomas Kaberle in the second period of a 4-3 shootout victory over the New Jersey Devils on Friday.

Kaberle was taken from the ice on a stretcher after he was hit into the boards by New Jersey's Cam Janssen.

Toronto's Jeff O'Neill scored the decisive goal in the fifth round of the shootout. He has four goals and an assist in five contests against Buffalo.
