Bruins continue drive for final playoff spot vs. Devils

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- If the Boston Bruins can pick up the pace, they can make a serious bid for the postseason.

The Bruins aim for their 10th win in 15 games Sunday when they visit the New Jersey Devils in an Eastern Conference clash.

Thanks to their recent 9-4-1 surge, the Bruins are six points behind the Carolina Hurricanes for eighth place in the East. They have not competed in the postseason in three years.

Boston snapped a three-game slide with Saturday's 3-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens. Petr Tenkrat and Brandon Bochenski scored in the first period while netminder Tim Thomas made 31 saves for his 28th win of the season.

The Bruins will have their hands full against New Jersey, which has won five of its last seven contests and leads the conference in fewest goals allowed (153). The Devils have a 10-point advantage over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Atlantic Division race.

New Jersey is coming off Friday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Jamie Langenbrunner netted a power-play goal and Sergei Brylin and Jay Pandolfo added tallies for the Devils.

The teams have split their first two matchups this season, with Boston posting a 5-3 triumph December 14.
