Islanders look to continue dominance of Rangers

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- The New York Islanders can enhance their playoff chances if they keep playing well against the New York Rangers.

The Islanders look continue their mastery of their Atlantic Division rivals Monday when they visit the Rangers.

The seventh-place team in the Eastern Conference, the Islanders are two points ahead of the eighth-place Carolina Hurricanes and six ahead of the Rangers, who are 11th.

The Islanders, 5-0-1 in their last six games, have won all four meetings this season with the Rangers.

Acquired from Edmonton at the trade deadline, All-Star left wing Ryan Smyth scored his first goal as an Islander in Saturday's 6-2 triumph over Washington.

The Rangers, who are 5-2-3 in their last 10 contest, posted a 3-2 shootout win over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.

Sean Avery scored the tying goal late in the third period and has two tallies and six assists in 12 games since joining the Rangers on February 5.
