Maple Leafs look to cure recent home woes

TORONTO (Ticker) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs are in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race despite a poor home record.

The Maple Leafs aim to snap a three-game losing streak at home when they host the Washington Capitals on Tuesday.

Toronto is 11th in the East and trails Carolina (33-28-7) by just two points for the last playoff spot.

The Maple Leafs are a disappointing 12-15-5 at the Air Canada Centre but a strong 19-11-4 on the road. They have not won two straight home games since early November.

Andrew Raycroft rebounded from a pair of poor performances by stopping 22 shots in a 4-3 shootout win over New Jersey on Friday.

The victory over the Devils was a costly one for Toronto, which lost All-Star defenseman Tomas Kaberle for up to a month when he was slammed into the boards by New Jersey's Cam Janssen.

Kaberle was removed from the ice on a stretcher and was taken to the hospital. Janssen was suspended three games for the hit.

The Capitals have dropped four straight contests, including Saturday's 6-2 home loss to the New York Islanders.
