Sabres look for fourth straight victory
Mar 7, 2007 - 3:32 PM Colorado (33-29-5) at Buffalo (44-16-5) 7:00 pm ESTBUFFALO, New York (Ticker) -- The Buffalo Sabres have so much offensive firepower that not even a barrage of injuries can slow them down.
The Sabres aim to keep the goals coming when they host the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday.
Despite a bevy of injuries, the Sabres still have scored a league-high 251 goals. They have tallied 28 times in their last five contests, going 4-1 during that span.
The Sabres should get back center Chris Drury, who has missed the last four games with a concussion. But they still will be without right wing Ales Kotalik, right wing Maxim Afinogenov and defenseman Jaroslav Spacek.
Buffalo has 93 points, one behind Nashville for the league lead.
The Avalanche moved to within eight points of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference after a 2-0 win over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday.
Brett Clark scored his first game-winning goal of the season and Peter Budaj made 21 saves. Budaj has won four straight starts and allowed just six goals in that span.
Rookie Paul Stastny assisted on Clark's goal to give him points in 16 consecutive games, tying him with his father, Peter Stastny, for the second-longest rookie points streak in NHL history.
Teemu Selanne holds the record with points in 17 straight games for the Winnipeg Jets in the 1992-93 season.
