Bottom-feeders look to continue rise when Flyers face Panthers

Mar 8, 2007 - 4:35 PM Florida (27-27-13) at Philadelphia (18-37-11) 7:00 pm EST

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The Florida Panthers and the Philadelphia Flyers amazingly are two of the hottest teams in the NHL.

Two of the worst teams in the league, the Panthers and Flyers look to their recent strong play when they face off Thursday.

While Florida is 20 points ahead of last-place Philadelphia, it is not in good position to reach the postseason. With only 15 games left in the season, the Panthers are six points out of the eighth and final playoff spot.

However, Florida has been playing much better of late, posting a 7-2-2 record in its last 11 games. The Panthers had their season-high four-game winning streak snapped in a 4-2 loss to Atlanta on Tuesday.

Philadelphia is 7-6-6 since the All-Star break, including a 5-4 overtime win against first-place New Jersey on Tuesday. Simon Gagne scored 1:47 into overtime to secure the victory.

Making his Philadelphia debut, Martin Biron made 37 saves for the Flyers. Biron came to from the Buffalo Sabres at the trade deadline.
