Red Wings look to extend points streak to 10 games

DETROIT (Ticker) -- The Detroit Red Wings and Los Angeles Kings are in different places in the standings for one major reason - defense.

The Red Wings look to extend their points streak to 10 games when they host the Kings on Friday.

Detroit has allowed just 165 goals, tied with New Jersey for the fewest in the league. The Kings have allowed 234 tallies, the third-most in the league.

The Red Wings are 6-0-3 in their last 10 games.

On Tuesday, the Red Wings won the matchup between the Western Conference's top two teams with a 4-3 shootout victory over Nashville.

Johan Franzen scored the deciding goal in the shootout while Robert Lang and defenseman Mathieu Schneider each had a goal and an assist. Schneider has four goals and 12 assists in his last 11 games.

The Kings are out of the playoff picture, sitting last in the conference with 55 points.

Los Angeles endured its third straight loss Wednesday, a 3-2 overtime setback at Columbus. Michael Cammalleri, the Kings' leading scorer, had an assist to give him 25 points in his last 17 games.
