Canucks G Luongo seeks 40th win of season

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- Goaltender Roberto Luongo has seen plenty of action against the Minnesota Wild this season.

Luongo attempts to reach the 40-win plateau for the first time in his career when the Vancouver Canucks seek their sixth victory in seven contests against the Wild on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old Luongo has made a tremendous impression in his first campaign in Vancouver after being acquired in an offseason trade with the Florida Panthers.

After setting the single-season franchise record with his 39th win against the San Jose Sharks last Friday, Luongo had his personal four-game winning streak stopped with Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks.

Luongo is 3-3-1 in the first seven matchups against the Wild. He turned aside 29 shots and Jeff Cowan scored twice to lead the Canucks to a 4-3 triumph in their previous meeting on March 4.

Attempting to return to the playoffs following last season's near miss, Vancouver is 11-2-1 in its last 14 outings and has a two-point lead over Minnesota in the Northwest Division race.

The Wild will try to end the Canucks' five-game home winning streak and raise their record to 13-3-2 in their 18 road contests, dating to January 11. They opened the season with four victories in 21 games away from home.

Minnesota opens a three-game road trip after Sunday's 3-2 overtime victory over the Colorado Avalanche.

Mikko Koivu scored twice against Colorado and has six assists in the seven meetings with the Canucks this season.
