Bruins aim to move up in Eastern Conference standings
Mar 15, 2007 - 3:01 PM Washington (24-24-12) at Boston (33-31-5) 7:00 pm EDTBOSTON (Ticker) -- The Boston Bruins showed some offensive prowess in their last victory, and they will have to keep it up to stay in the Eastern Conference playoff chase.
The Bruins hope to inch closer to the final playoff spot in the East when they host the Washington Capitals on Thursday.
The Bruins have 71 points and are 12th in the East, seven points out of the final playoff spot. After scoring just two goals in three straight losses, the Bruins exploded in a 6-3 triumph over Detroit on Sunday.
Marco Sturm had two goals and an assist while Marc Savard had three assists for the Bruins, who have won all three meetings with the Capitals this season.
Washington lost its eighth straight game, 4-2, to the Atlanta Thrashers on Monday.
Alex Ovechkin scored his 40th and 41st goals for the Capitals, who are 2-16-1 in their last 19 road games.
