Stars shoot for fourth straight win, aim to inch closer to Ducks

DALLAS (Ticker) -- The Dallas Stars will need to keep their winning streak going if they want to gain ground in the Pacific Division.

The Stars shoot for their fourth straight win Thursday when they host the Calgary Flames.

The Stars have 87 points and are tied with San Jose (42-25-3) for second in the Pacific Division, nine points behind Anaheim (42-17-12).

Dallas started March with a four-game skid before embarking on its current streak, which includes a 3-2 victory over Philadelphia on Tuesday.

Mike Modano became the 39th player to score 500 goals and just the second American-born player to accomplish the feat. He needs two tallies to tie Joey Mullen for the all-time lead among American players.

Jere Lehtinen and Jussi Jokinen also scored while Mike Smith made 17 saves for the Stars, who have surrendered a league-low 166 goals.

The Flames remained three points behind second-place Minnesota (40-24-7) and four behind first-place Vancouver (41-23-6) in the tight Northwest Division after Wednesday's 3-2 loss to Colorado.

Jarome Iginla and Stephane Yelle scored while Miikka Kiprusoff made 39 saves for the Flames, who have an eight-point lead over the Avalanche (35-29-6) for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West.
