Gaborik, Wild look for fifth straight win

EDMONTON, Alberta (Ticker) -- Marian Gaborik should be happy to see the Edmonton Oilers, who would be thrilled to avoid another loss.

Gaborik and the Minnesota Wild shoot for their fifth consecutive win Thursday when they visit the slumping Oilers in a Northwest Division battle.

Minnesota trails first-place Vancouver (41-23-6) by only one point in the tight division standings and owns an 11-point cushion over Colorado (35-29-6) for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Gaborik has scored five goals in five games this season against Edmonton, which is on a season-high eight game skid and likely will miss the postseason after reaching the Stanley Cup Finals last year.

The Oilers have not lost nine in a row since March 23-April 9, 1995. Edmonton has lost three of its five meetings with the Wild this season, including a 5-0 loss here on March 1.

Edmonton has managed a total of just six goals during its losing streak, which continued Monday with a 5-1 loss at Los Angeles.
