Rangers try to rebound from tough loss vs. Bruins

Mar 17, 2007 - 3:04 PM Boston (34-31-5) at NY Rangers (34-29-9) 7:00 pm EST

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Just a little extra offense would go a long way to help get the New York Rangers into the postseason.

Coming off Friday's overtime loss in Atlanta, the Rangers quickly return to action in search of their fifth win in eight games Saturday against the Boston Bruins.

New York has failed to score more than two goals in its last six contests, totaling 11 during that stretch. The Rangers have dropped 22 one-goal games this season.

Sean Avery netted New York's lone tally in Friday's 2-1 defeat to the Atlanta Thrashers. However, the Rangers picked up one point and are one behind the Carolina Hurricanes (35-29-8) for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.

Boston has shown a little more offensive firepower lately, scoring 10 times in back-to-back victories over the Detroit Red Wings and the Washington Capitals. The Bruins are 8-5-1 in 14 games and five points behind Carolina in the postseason hunt.

Marco Sturm has been a spark plug for Boston with five goals and seven assists in his last 11 contests. After a three-point outing Sunday against Detroit, he had a goal and an assist in Thursday's 4-3 shootout win over the Capitals.

New York has outscored its "Original Six" rival, 9-2, in winning the first two matchups of the season, including a 6-1 rout January 29. The teams meet again next Saturday in Boston.
