Quick start carries Kings by Blue Jackets

Mar 18, 2007 - 5:40 AM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Kings didn't have to worry about going beyond regulation this time.

Jamie Heward had a goal and an assist and the Kings scored the first four goals of the game en route to a 5-3 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The league leader with 14 losses in overtime or shootouts, Los Angeles scored on three of its first seven shots, knocking Blue Jackets goaltender Brian Boucher from the game at 4:16 of the second period.

Heward and Lubomir Visnovsky tallied in the first period and Mike Weaver made it 3-0 early in the second, bringing Fredrik Norrena on in place of Boucher.

Rob Blake made it 4-0 with the Kings' second 5-on-3 power-play goal of the game at 16:35 of the middle session, and in the process became the franchise's 11th all-time goal scorer, surpassing Ziggy Palffy with 151.

Geoff Platt scored the first of his two goals with four minutes left in second for the Blue Jackets, but Los Angeles' Jamie Lundmark answered 58 seconds later for a 5-1 lead.

With 1:03 to play in the contest, Platt added his second tally, giving him three for his career - all against the Kings.

Rick Nash also scored for Columbus, which finished 1-3 on its four-game West Coast road trip.

Mathieu Garon made 31 saves for Los Angeles.
