Canadiens continue playoff push

MONTREAL (Ticker) -- The Montreal Canadiens continue their playoff push with a home-and-home series against the Boston Bruins, who have flickering postseason hopes of their own.

The Canadiens are tied for ninth with the New York Islanders and Toronto and two points behind Carolina (36-29-8).

Montreal has won three of its last four games, including a 4-3 shootout victory over Toronto on Saturday.

Andrei Kostitsyn and captain Saku Koivu scored in regulation and in the shootout for the Canadiens.

Boston is five points behind Montreal and likely has to sweep the series to have any chance at getting back in the playoff picture.

The Bruins had won at Detroit and against Washington, but any momentum they had was stalled on Saturday in a 7-0 loss to the Rangers.

Boston has won two straight over Montreal and three of five meetings this season.

The teams will meet again Thursday in Boston.
