Sabres look to move closer to division, conference titles

BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) -- The Buffalo Sabres try to move a step closer to wrapping up the Northeast Division and Eastern Conference titles when they host the Washington Capitals on Wednesday.

The Sabres lead Ottawa (43-23-8) by five points in the division race and New Jersey (43-22-8) by five points for the conference crown. They have scored the most goals in the league (271) but have just 18 goals in a 2-3-2 stretch.

Buffalo wrapped up a 2-0-2 road trip with a 4-3 overtime loss in Atlanta on Sunday. Ryan Miller allowed four goals on 27 shots and is just 1-3-2 with 20 goals allowed in his last six starts.

The Capitals have been virtually eliminated from the playoff race but scored a surprising 7-1 victory over Tampa Bay (40-30-4) on Sunday. Alexander Semin recorded the hat trick and Tomas Fleischmann added two goals.

Olaf Kolzig is 2-0-1 with just five goals allowed in his three starts since returning from a knee injury which kept him out a month.
