Streaking Avalanche continue playoff push
Mar 21, 2007 - 2:17 PM Colorado (37-29-6) at Edmonton (30-36-7) 9:00 pm EDTEDMONTON, Alberta (Ticker) -- The Colorado Avalanche are the hottest team in the NHL. The Edmonton Oilers are the coldest.
The Avalanche have won eight of their last nine games heading into Wednesday's contest against the Edmonton Oilers, who have lost 11 in a row.
Colorado is six points behind Calgary (38-25-10) for the final Western Conference playoff spot.
Milan Hejduk scored in overtime to lead the Avalanche to a 4-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Sunday. He has eight goals and seven assists in his last 15 contests.
Colorado's Paul Stastny was held without a goal or assist, snapping his NHL-record 20-game rookie points streak.
The Avalanche have not missed the playoffs since 1993-94, when they were still the Quebec Nordiques.
The defending Western Conference champion Oilers have been outscored, 39-10, during their losing streak. They have nine regulation losses and an overtime loss since trading Ryan Smyth to the New York Islanders at the February 27 trade deadline.
