Red Wings look reclaim top spot in West

DETROIT (Ticker) -- The Detroit Red Wings have a lot at stake these days with the Central Division and Western Conference titles on the line.

The Red Wings continue their pursuit of first place in the division and the conference Thursday when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Detroit is one point behind Central rival Nashville (47-20-6) for the top spot in the conference.

However, the Red Wings have dropped their last two games, including Tuesday's 2-1 loss at Calgary.

The Blue Jackets defeated Chicago, 5-2, on Tuesday to snap a two-game skid. Fredrik Modin tallied twice while David Vyborny had two assists for Columbus, which had not scored five times in regulation since a 6-2 triumph over Ottawa on December 10.

Columbus has won two of its five meetings with Detroit this season, including a 3-1 home victory in the last matchup on January 19.
