Ducks go for franchise records in wins and points

GLENDALE, Arizona (Ticker) -- The Anaheim Ducks are on the verge of cementing the best season in franchise history.

The Ducks aim to set franchise records in wins and points when they visit the lowly Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday.

Anaheim will try to break the franchise marks set last season season, when they went 43-27-12 for 98 points.

But Anaheim also has other incentives, as it wants to increase its lead four-point lead over San Jose (45-25-4) and and its five-point advantage over Dallas (44-24-5) in the Pacific Division.

The Ducks trail Nashville (47-20-6) by two points for the top spot in the Western Conference.

The Ducks are 6-1-1 in their last eight games despite a surprising 5-3 setback to lowly Los Angeles on Sunday. Teemu Selanne scored his 44th goal while Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 24 shots.

The Coyotes have won just one of their last 10 contests and try to rebound from a 3-2 loss to Minnesota on Tuesday.
