Sedin twins lead Canucks against Avalanche
Mar 25, 2007 - 1:27 PM Colorado (38-29-7) at Vancouver (45-23-6) 10:00 pm EDTVANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- Vancouver's Daniel Sedin and his twin brother Henrik aim to lead the Vancouver Canucks back into first place in the Northwest Division on Sunday when they host the Colorado Avalanche.
Vancouver (45-23-6) fell into to second place after division rival Minnesota beat Los Angeles 4-1 on Saturday. The Canucks also dropped into a tie with Dallas and San Jose for fifth place in the conference standings.
Daniel Sedin, who leads the Canucks with 32 goals and 73 points, has scored one goal in all four games he's played against Colorado this season. Twin brother Henrik - second on the club with 70 points - has tallied five times vs. the Avalanche in 2006-07.
Vancouver has won four straight including a 2-0 shutout vs. Nashville on Wednesday and now takes on Colorado, which it has beaten two straight times after suffering three straight losses in the series. Roberto Luongo stopped 20 shots for his fourth shutout of the season in blanking the conference-leading Predators.
It is the first in a home-and-away series with their division rival, with the second game taking place in Denver on Tuesday.
Colorado (38-29-7), which is in ninth place in the West and five points behind eighth-place Calgary, is trying to extend its playoff run to 12 consecutive seasons.
The Avalanche will try to rebound following a 4-3 shootout loss to Oilers in Edmonton on Friday. The defeat follows a four-game winning streak for Colorado which has received outstanding play recently from left wing Andrew Brunette.
The 11-year veteran, who has a goal and 10 assists during a current seven-game points streak, has also tallied four times against Vancouver this season.
