Penguins could move into first place in Atlantic Division

Mar 27, 2007 - 2:12 PM Pittsburgh (43-23-10) at Washington (26-37-13) 7:00 pm EDT

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- If everything breaks right, the Pittsburgh Penguins could be all alone in first place in the Atlantic Division after their game against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday.

Having not qualified for the playoffs in four seasons, the Penguins are tied with New Jersey (44-23-8) for the divisional lead. New Jersey is visiting the New York Islanders on Tuesday.

The Penguins have been surging, going 10-3-1 in their last 14 contests. They are coming off Sunday's 5-0 pounding of Boston.

Sidney Crosby, who leads the league with 111 points, snapped a season-high three-game pointless drought with a goal and two assists for the Penguins.

Crosby will be looking to help the Penguins to their fourth win against the Capitals in as many tries this season.

Pittsburgh also has received a big contribution from veteran Gary Roberts, who has four goals and six assists in 14 games since being acquired at the February 27 trade deadline.

Already looking toward next season, the Capitals have just two wins in their last 14 games.

A lone bright spot for Washington has been Alex Ovechkin, who probably will not match last season's 106 points total but still has been an offensive force with 43 goals and 43 assists.
