Explosive Senators aim for fourth straight victory
Mar 27, 2007 - 3:01 PM Boston (34-35-6) at Ottawa (45-23-8) 7:30 pm EDTOTTAWA (Ticker) -- The Ottawa Senators try to continue their offensive surge Tuesday when they face the Boston Bruins.
The Senators have scored 15 goals during a three-game winning streak, which has pulled them within five points of Buffalo (48-20-7) for first place in the Northeast Division. Ottawa is two points in front of Pittsburgh (43-23-10) and New Jersey (44-23-8) for fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Dany Heatley scored twice and Christoph Schubert had a tally and two assists to lead Ottawa to a 7-2 rout of Tampa Bay on Saturday. Ottawa has scored 267 goals on the season, ranking second to Buffalo (282).
The fading Bruins have been shut out three times and scored just four goals during a five-game losing streak that has all but ended their playoff hopes. Boston is 10 points out of the final postseason spot with seven games remaining.
On Sunday, the Bruins were lifeless in a 5-0 loss at Pittsburgh. Tim Thomas was pulled after allowing three goals on just nine shots in the first period.
