Red-hot Wild seek 10th consecutive win

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (Ticker) -- The Minnesota Wild aim to extend their franchise-record winning streak to 10 games Tuesday when they entertain the Calgary Flames.

Buoyed by their winning streak, the Wild have tied Vancouver (45-23-7) for first place in the Northwest Division. A win in this contest would allow Minnesota to match Buffalo for the NHL's longest winning streak of the season.

Minnesota has been dominant during its winning streak, outscoring the opposition by a lopsided 31-13. The Wild have allowed a league-low 183 goals on the season.

The Wild will again turn to goaltender Niklas Backstrom, who has been outstanding since taking over for Manny Fernandez. Backstrom has won his last seven starts and is 16-3-2 since Fernandez went down with a knee injury.

Minnesota's Marian Gaborik also has been rolling with five goals and eight assists in an eight-game points streak.

Calgary, which has won three straight games, has a five-point lead over Colorado (39-29-7) for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The teams have split six meetings this season. They meet again in Minnesota on Thursday.
