Hurricanes try to rebound from loss

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The Carolina Hurricanes seek to bounce back from a loss when they visit the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday.

Carolina suffered a 6-1 loss at Toronto on Tuesday. Cam Ward, who had won three of his last four starts while allowing just six goals, was pulled after surrendering five goals on 19 shots. Eric Staal scored Carolina's only goal, giving him tallies in three straight contests.

The loss left the Hurricanes in a three-way tie with the New York Islanders (36-28-12) and Toronto (37-29-10) for ninth place in the Eastern Conference, two points out of the final playoff spot.

The Flyers (20-44-11) have a league-low 51 points and have lost six of seven games. They have struggled at both ends of the ice, scoring the fourth-fewest goals (194) in the NHL while surrendering a league-high 280.

Philadelphia lost, 4-3, to the Islanders on Saturday despite a goal and two assists by Jeff Carter.

The Flyers signed goaltender Martin Biron to a two-year contract extension on Tuesday. The veteran netminder is 4-5-0 with a 2.96 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage in 10 starts with Philadelphia since being acquired from Buffalo before the February 27 trade deadline.
