Highly touted Johnson joins Kings vs. first-place Canucks

Mar 29, 2007 - 2:34 PM Vancouver (46-23-7) at Los Angeles (26-37-14) 10:30 pm EDT

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- In a lost season, the Los Angeles Kings will get a look at their future.

Newly signed defenseman Jack Johnson will join the club when the Kings take on the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday.

Los Angeles is mired in 13th place in the Western Conference with only 66 points.

A highly touted prospect, Johnson on Tuesday signed a multi-year contract with Los Angeles and will be available to make his NHL debut on Thursday.

The heralded defenseman was originally drafted by Carolina but was acquired by the Kings along with defenseman Oleg Tverdovsky in exchange for center Eric Belanger and defenseman Tim Gleason in September 2006.

Los Angeles suffered a 3-1 loss to San Jose on Tuesday. Brian Willsie scored and Sean Burke made 23 saves for the Kings, who have lost three of their last four games.

They will look to show some promise with their new addition when they take on the Canucks, who blanked Colorado, 3-0, on Tuesday.

Sami Salo scored the decisive goal on the power play and set up another and goaltender Roberto Luongo posted his fifth shutout.

Vancouver has a one-point lead over Minnesota (45-24-8) for first place in the Northwest Division with six games left.
