Colorado looks for record-breaking win vs. Minnesota

DENVER (Ticker) -- Joe Sakic and the Colorado Avalanche can break a franchise record for wins in the month of March with a victory over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday.

The Avalanche tied the franchise record of 10 with a 4-3 win over the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday.

Colorado has won seven of its last 10 games, and is looking to sneak in the playoffs.

Sakic has a team-leading 34 goals and 56 assists for the Avalanche (40-30-7) who are currently seven points behind the Calgary Flames (42-25-10) for the Western Conference's eighth and final playoff spot with five games remaining.

Minnesota, which is three points behind the Vancouver Canucks for the Northwest Division lead, currently holds the seventh playoff spot in the West despite losing its last two.

The Avalanche look to even the season series at four wins apiece. The Wild have won the last three meetings, the most recent being a 3-2 win in Minnesota on a Brent Burns rebound goal with 18.9 second left in overtime on March 11.
