Penguins aim for top of Eastern Conference

TORONTO (Ticker) -- The Pittsburgh Penguins are in the midst of an historic turnaround.

After finishing with just 58 points last season, the second worst record in the NHL, the Penguins have 100 points with four games to play. They travel to face the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.

Pittsburgh has not won a division title since the 1997-98 season, but it has recorded an NHL-high 25 points in March to challenge New Jersey (45-24-8) in the Atlantic Division.

Second-year superstar Sidney Crosby had three assists in a 4-2 win over Boston on Thursday. He now has eight points in the last three games to bring his NHL-leading total to 116.

The Maple Leafs have won six straight home games and are battling with Montreal (40-32-6) and the New York Rangers (39-29-9) for the last two playoff spots in the east. They have not won seven in a row at home since November 19 - December 14, 2002.

The Penguins have taken all three games from Toronto this season after losing four straight in 2005-06. Rookie Jordan Stall notched his first career hat trick in a 6-5 victory February 10 in Toronto.

Pittsburgh has tallied 18 goals against the Maple Leafs this season.
