Anaheim aims for the West's top spot
Mar 31, 2007 - 4:11 PM Anaheim (46-20-12) at St Louis (32-33-12) 8:00 pm EDTST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- The Anaheim Ducks have put themselves in position to challenge for the top spot in the Western Conference and the Presidents Trophy.
The Ducks will look to improve on their franchise record for road victories when they visit the lowly St. Louis Blues on Saturday.
Anaheim has won two in a row and is now one point behind Detroit (47-19-11) and Nashville (49-22-7) in the race for the top seed in the West. The Ducks are three points behind the Buffalo Sabres in the race for the Presidents Trophy.
The Ducks posted a 5-2 victory over Columbus on Thursday behind two goals from defenseman Chris Pronger and 23 saves from goaltender Jean-Sebastian Giguere. Right wing Teemu Selanne added three assists and tallied his team-leading 45th goal in the win.
St. Louis had lost four of five before taking a 5-2 decision from Edmonton on Thursday. The Blues, who will miss the playoff for the second straight season, can still have an effect on the playoff race with games remaining against Western Conference powers Minnesota, Nashville and Dallas.
Anaheim is 2-1-0 against St. Louis this season and has won five of six in the series.
