Vancouver hosts Calgary in Western Conference showdown

Mar 31, 2007 - 4:19 PM Calgary (42-25-10) at Vancouver (47-23-7) 10:00 pm EDT

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- Mikka Kiprusoff and the Vancouver Canucks have already set a franchise record for wins in the regular season. Now they can look forward to the playoffs.

The Canucks, who have won six of seven games, play host to the Calgary Flames on Saturday. The Flames currently hold the Western Conference's eighth and final playoff spot.

Kiprusoff is second in the league in shutouts with seven, and is allowing just under 2.5 goals against average for the conference's third best team.

The Canucks beat the Los Angeles Kings 4-2, on Thursday, and in the process notched their franchise record 47th win.

With the win Vancouver stretched its Northwest Division lead to three points over the Minnesota Wild.

Daniel Sedin had a goal in two assists in the win over the Kings. His brother, Henrik posted three assists, as the Canucks reached the 100 point mark for only the fourth time in club history.

Meanwhile, Calgary has won six of its last 10 games and are just seven points ahead of Colorado for the final playoff spot. The Flames can clinch a playoff spot with a win and a loss by the Avalanche against the Minnesota Wild on Saturday.

The season series is tied at 1-1, with the last meeting a 4-3 Flames win in Calgary on February 3.
