Panthers hope to bounce back vs. Capitals
Apr 3, 2007 - 3:04 PM Florida (34-30-15) at Washington (26-39-14) 7:00 pm EDTWASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The door has not closed on the Florida Panthers' postseason hopes.
The Panthers will try to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss when they visit the reeling Washington Capitals on Tuesday.
Florida has won the last five meetings.
Despite first-period goals from Jozef Stumpel, Florida squandered a two-goal lead and fell, 4-3, in overtime to Carolina on Sunday. Ray Whitney beat Ed Belfour with 1:30 left in overtime to lift the Hurricanes to the win.
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Panthers, who are still mathematically alive for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Florida trails Montreal (41-32-6) by five points with three games left.
Florida's Olli Jokinen has recorded at least a point in eight straight games.
The Capitals have dropped six straight, including a 5-2 setback to Tampa Bay on Saturday. Goaltender Olaf Kolzig recorded 24 saves and Matt Pettinger and Matt Bradley scored goals for the Capitals.
