Canadiens seek to hold on to final postseason spot

Apr 3, 2007 - 3:10 PM Boston (35-38-6) at Montreal (41-32-6) 7:30 pm EDT

MONTREAL (Ticker) -- The surging Montreal Canadiens control their own playoff destiny.

Montreal is in the eighth playoff spot heading into Tuesday's contest against the Boston Bruins.

The Canadiens won for the sixth time in seven games, posting a 4-3 triumph over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday.

Montreal is one point ahead of Toronto (38-30-11) and two ahead of defending champion Carolina (39-32-8). The Canadiens still can finish as high as sixth in the conference. They trail Tampa Bay (43-32-4) by two points and the New York Rangers (41-29-9) by three points.

Christopher Higgins scored one of Montreal's four third-period goals in a 6-3 win over Boston on March 22.

The Bruins have dropped three in a row, including a 3-1 setback at New Jersey on Sunday. They will finish in last place in the Northeast Division for the second straight season.
