Canucks and Sharks fight for their respective division titles
Apr 7, 2007 - 4:26 PM Vancouver (48-25-7) at San Jose (51-26-4) 4:00 pm EDTSAN JOSE, California (Ticker) -- The Vancouver Canucks hold a one point lead in the Northwest Division. The San Jose Sharks are one point back in the Pacific Division.
The Western Conference playoff picture will look much clearer after the Sharks host the Canucks Saturday afternoon.
With two games remaining, the Canucks are one point in front of second-place Minnesota, which ends the regular season Saturday at home against St. Louis.
Vancouver enters this contest having lost two of its last three games.
Entering with a five-game winning streak, the Sharks are two points back of first-place Anaheim. They would win the division with a win, coupled with an Anaheim loss in regulation at Columbus.
Jonathan Cheechoo has five goals during the Sharks' winning streak. All-Star center Joe Thorton notched his 89th and 90th assists in Thursday's 4-3 win over Calgary, joining Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux as the only players in NHL history to post back-to-back 90 assist seasons.
Vancouver holds a 2-1-0 advantage in the season series.
