Hurricanes, Panthers finish out disappointing seasons

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) -- A pair of teams who will miss the playoffs meet to close the regular season Saturday when the Carolina Hurricanes host the Florida Panthers.

The Hurricanes host the Panthers in the regular-season finale for both teams.

A season after winning the Stanley Cup, the Hurricanes became the first defending champion to miss the playoffs the following campaign since New Jersey in 1996.

The Hurricanes have lost five of their last six games, failing to score more than two goals in any of the defeats. The Panthers have missed the playoffs for a sixth straight season.

Carolina is in third place in the Southeast Division, one point ahead of Florida.

Olli Jokinen had a goal and an assist in Florida's 7-2 win over Tampa Bay. He leads the team with 88 points.

Jokinen has six goals against the Hurricanes this season, but the Panthers are just 1-3-3 in the series.
