Leafs look to improve on last home appearance
Oct 7, 2006 - 2:23 PM Montreal (0-0-1) at Toronto (1-1-0) 7:00 pm EDTTORONTO (Ticker) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs return to the Air Canada Centre and look for a better performance than last time.
The Leafs looked sluggish in dropping a home-opening 4-1 decision to the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday and look to bounce back against the Northeast Division rival Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
Mats Sundin scored the only Toronto goal on a penalty shot after the Senators had jumped out to a 3-0 lead.
Goaltender Andrew Raycroft, who was acquired from Boston in the offseason to replace the departed Ed Belfour, had his debut spoiled as he stopped 32 shots.
The Canadiens are playing the second of back-to-back games after opening the season with a 5-4 shootout loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Friday.
Saku Koivu had two goals and an assist for Montreal while Chris Higgins added a goal and two assists.
The loss ruined Guy Carbonneau's debut as Canadiens coach.
No one has shouted yet.
