Bruins look to rebound from disastrous start
Oct 7, 2006 - 3:35 PM Boston (0-1-0) at Tampa Bay (1-0-0) 7:30 pm EDTTAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- The Boston Bruins entered the season with high hopes after a plethora of offseason changes. However, the good feelings came to a crashing halt in Florida on Friday.
The Bruins look to pick up the pieces when they face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday.
The Bruins enter with a bruised ego after they were hammered, 8-3, by the Panthers. Boston fell behind, 3-1, after the first period and trailed, 4-2, after two before falling apart in the third.
Marco Sturm led the Bruins with a goal and an assist while Glen Murray and Wayne Primeau scored the other goals for Boston, which went 1-for-8 on the power play.
The Lightning fared much better in their season opener than the Bruins did, downing the Atlanta Thrashers, 3-2, in a shootout on Thursday.
Vincent Lecavalier scored the only goal of the shootout while Ryan Craig scored twice in regulation for Tampa Bay, which went 1-for-7 on the power play.
Tampa Bay netminder Marc Denis was not extremely busy in stopping 9-of-11 shots faced.
