Devils face Stars to complete tough season-opening road trip

Oct 7, 2006 - 3:38 PM New Jersey (1-0-0) at Dallas (1-0-0) 8:00 pm EDT

DALLAS (Ticker) -- After defeating the defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes on Friday, the New Jersey Devils face one of the Western Conference's best teams.

The Devils will take on the Dallas Stars on Saturday to complete a season-opening two-game road trip.

Martin Brodeur posted his 81st career shutout and Zach Parise scored twice as New Jersey began its 2006-07 season with a 4-0 triumph over the defending champions. In search of the all-time record for most wins, Brodeur made 29 saves to tie Hall of Famer Terry Sawchuk for third place with 447 victories.

The Stars notched a 3-2 comeback win over the Colorado Avalanche in the season opener for both teams on Wednesday. After starting overtime in the penalty box, Darryl Sydor scored on a breakaway at 2:07 for the go-ahead tally.

The goal extended Dallas' unbeaten streak in season openers to 10 games, the fourth-longest in NHL history.

The game will also mark the return of former Star Jamie Langenbrunner, who will be making his second trip to Dallas and first since November 28, 2003. The veteran spent his first 6 1/2 seasons with the Stars.
