Sabres look to bounce back in Game Five vs. Rangers

BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) -- Daniel Briere and the Buffalo Sabres thought they scored the tying goal in Game Four. Instead, they lost for the second straight time and return home tied with the New York Rangers at two games apiece in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

The Sabres won the first six meetings, including the first two games of the playoff series. But New York posted a 2-1 victory in double overtime in Game Three and evened the series with a 2-1 win in regulation.

In the final seconds of Game Four, Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist misplayed the puck behind his net and scurried back into the crease as Briere was attempting to stuff it home.

Lundqvist made the save but the play was reviewed for several minutes. Replays showed the puck partially cross the line before Lundqvist got his right pad over the puck, obscuring it from view.

"We initially had the TSN (Canadian TV) guys there next to the bench saying it crossed the line, so we were pretty confident that we had a goal," Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff said. "I believe I've seen a replay where it's in. The only thing you hope with video replay is that you get it right. That's why you go to it and we've had some lengthy video reviews. I think from what I saw it was a goal."

The Rangers are winless in four trip to Buffalo this season.
