Red Wings go for home-ice win and series lead

May 5, 2007 - 1:37 PM San Jose at Detroit 2:00 pm EDT Western Conference semifinals Series tied, 2-2

DETROIT (Ticker) - The San Jose Sharks squandered an opportunity to take a commanding three games to one series lead on Wednesday. The Detroit Red Wings will look to capitalize on their opponents collapse when the series heads back to Joe Louis Arena on Saturday.

In Game Four, Red Wings center Robert Lang tied the game with 29 seconds to go in the third period and defenseman Mathieu Schneider netted the winner during a power play late in overtime as Detroit overcame a two-goal deficit for the second time in the Western Conference semifinals.

The Red Wings' 3-2 triumph over the Sharks on Wednesday evened the series at two games apiece.

Tomas Holmstrom also scored and Dominik Hasek made 25 saves for the Red Wings.

After scoring twice in a 24-second span in Game One and holding on for a 2-0 victory, the Sharks have not fared well when leading by a pair of goals. They again stormed to a 2-0 advantage early in Game Two, but Detroit rallied for a 3-2 win, with Lang netting the winning goal with 84 seconds left in the third period.

It was deja vu all over again for San Jose in Game Four as Jonathan Cheechoo and Marcel Goc scored in just over a 10-minute span bridging the first two periods for a 2-0 bulge.

Detroit has won all but one of its home games in the playoffs, dropping just Game One against the Sharks.

If San Jose hopes to bounce back from its crushing defeat in Game Four, it will need to figure out a way to stop a resurgent Red Wings power play that converted on 2-of-5 chances Wednesday, including Wednesday's overtime winner.
