Jets score last to beat Flyers 9-8

Oct 28, 2011 - 3:32 AM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - If you were in the mood for goals, Thursday's game between the Winnipeg Jets and Philadelphia Flyers at the Wells Fargo Center would have surely satiated your appetite.

Andrew Ladd was the ninth different Winnipeg player to score, tallying the go- ahead goal with 1:06 left in the third period to lift the Jets to their first road win of the season, 9-8.

Winnipeg blew a pair of four-goal leads in a game that saw both clubs score five straight times at one point.

"That wasn't necessarily the way we drew it up to win a game on the road, but we'll take it, we'll take the two points and just go from there," said Jets head coach Claude Noel.

Nik Antropov and Tanner Glass each had a goal and two assists for Winnipeg, which went up 6-2 when Evander Kane netted a power-play marker just past the midway point of the contest. Kane's goal was the first yielded by Philadelphia's Ilya Bryzgalov, who had replaced Sergei Bobrovsky earlier in the second period.

Danny Briere and Maxime Talbot lit the lamp to trim Philadelphia's deficit to 6-4 after 40 minutes, and the Flyers surged ahead by scoring three times in a span of 1:53 during the early stages of the third period.

Briere jumped on a loose puck at the right side of the net and put it home on the backhand at 1:09. Rookie Matt Read then gloved a rebound and dropped it to the ice before firing the puck past Winnipeg goaltender Ondrej Pavelec. Chris Mason took over between the pipes and quickly surrendered a goal to James van Riemsdyk, who converted Briere's feed through the crease at 3:02.

The Flyers didn't hold the lead for very long as Alexander Burmistrov and Mark Stuart scored 61 seconds apart, with the latter beating Bryzgalov with a quick shot from between the circles at 4:31. Burmistrov lit the lamp 28 seconds after Philadelphia grabbed a 7-6 lead.

Winnipeg wound up making another goaltending change, reverting back to Pavelec once Mason departed with an apparent groin injury.

It was all even at eight when van Riemsdyk drove to the net and hammered home Kimmo Timonen's feed from the right circle with 3:39 to play.

Timonen finished with four assists for Philadelphia, which has dropped five of seven after beginning the season with three consecutive wins.

"I have zero confidence in myself right now," Bryzgalov said. "I am terrible. I will now apologize in front of the fans, in front of my teammates. I don't know what's going on. I have no answer for you guys. I thought in the last game against Montreal, that nothing worse was going to happen. Today was worse."

Down 1-0, the Jets tallied three goals in the second half of the first period and twice in the first 4:39 of the second to go up 5-1.

One minute after Glass scored, Antropov found himself all alone with the puck after a faceoff, deked and beat a prone Bobrovsky on a power play to give the visitors their first four-goal cushion.

Claude Giroux punched home a rebound on a two-man advantage just under two minutes later for Philadelphia.
