Canucks continue road trip versus Wild

Nov 3, 2011 - 3:20 PM (Sports Network) - The Vancouver Canucks will resume a six-game road trip tonight against the Minnesota Wild at Xcel Energy Center.

The Canucks got their trek off to a good start with a 5-1 victory at Calgary on Tuesday thanks to a goal and two assists from Alexander Edler. Cody Hodgson added a goal and an assist and goaltender Roberto Luongo came less than a minute away from a shutout, finishing with 28 saves.

"He's one of the best goalies in the league," Edler told the club's site. "It's unfortunate about that last goal, but we know he's good and that makes us feel comfortable playing in front of him."

Edler has three goals and six points in his last two games.

Daniel Sedin and Alexandre Burrows both had power-play goals for the defending Western Conference champion Canucks, who have won two in a row and four of six games. Vancouver will also visit the Blues, Blackhawks, Kings and Ducks on the current road swing.

Sedin moved into a tie for fourth place on the club's all-time scoring list with Pavel Bure. His 254 career goals with Vancouver trail Stan Smyl (262), Trevor Linden (318) and Markus Naslund (346).

Minnesota has won two in a row and three of five games, and is coming off Tuesday's 2-1 overtime win at Detroit.

Devin Setoguchi scored the game-winner on the man advantage 1:33 into overtime, while Mikko Koivu lit the lamp with just one minute remaining in regulation for the Wild, who got 36 saves from Josh Harding.

"I thought we showed a lot of character and a lot of resolve out there tonight," said Minnesota head coach Mike Yeo. "We still have guys that need to bring us more, but I'm just really impressed with this game."

The Wild will also host St. Louis on this quick homestand and swept the home- and-home series with the Red Wings. The last time the Wild won two straight in the same season versus Detroit was back in the 2002-03 campaign.

Minnesota has played five straight one-goal games.

Vancouver handed the Wild a 3-2 loss in overtime back on Oct. 22 and has won four straight in the series. The Canucks have dropped 10 of 18 games as the visitor against Minnesota.
